Self Portrait

I don't know about this one. I really like my original drawing and concept but the paint pens may have butchered it. Oh well, I tried something new.

Color Still Life

Self Portrait Reading and sketches

The artist i chose to influence my self portrait is Jason Hanasik. His photographs offer the viewer an honest portrayal of the subject.
"These schisms between a secret/private emotional life and a public experience confused me greatly. When I finished the initial process of coming out, the breach I was seeing in other lives began to become the focus of my work."
His exploration on such a theme enhances his work and makes it even more significant portraiture. He captures the individual's likeliness while at the same time giving the viewer a narrative of their life.

Over the break i started my self portrait, and I wasn't happy with it at all.

While my drawing certainly expressed the humorous side of my personality and my affinity for horror, it felt impersonal at the same time. I feel that it was more a caricature of me rather than an accurate description of myself as an artist. I took a look at self portraits from artists Robert Crumb and Gary Panter ive reconnected with a vision of creative mark making and portraiture that allows a vibrancy of personality to shine through.

Yeah, I like these guys alot. So I had a go at it myself-
I'm not quite there but it's a good start!

As far as dramatic lighting goes I've been quite inspired by the Silence of The Lambs.
I think im going to go with the top picture for my portrait.
